Hi. I just got a male doberman and we are trying to decide if we should fix him or not. We don't have kids, but I'm told they are better pets when fixed. Is this true?

Hi Jamie,
Well, I'm not sure I would say they are better pets. I guess that depends on what you want in a pet. If you want them to settle down and be more receptive to people, than yes, it does make them a better pet. If your pet is well socialized you will get these same results. So it is really up to you. I recommend males getting fixed because they are less territorial when neutered. Because of bleeding issues and going into heat, it is easier to deal with spaying the females. :)
Thanks for asking!!

My son's dobermann was spayed 5 days ago and her personality has changed 110%! She is tearing stuff up, crying all the time and acts like a chew toy is her sole possession. HELP! She is completely opposite of what she was before her surgery.

Hi Kathy,
Five days is a very short time period after her surgery. She might just be experiencing pain or discomfort from the surgery. Let her enjoy her chew toy - give her a new chew toy if she is being destructive - and call your vet to see if she might require pain medicine. Also check to make sure she doesn't have any swelling and try to keep her calm. Ice cubes are great occasional distractions because Dobies love to chew on the cold treats.
Keep me posted!!
