Feeding and Food Tips:
Ummm, mmmm, tastes like CHICKEN!
I am not a veterinarian, but over the years I have learned a few tips that might help you with your Doberman. Please talk with your veterinarian if you have any specific feeding questions or to check if your Doberman requires special feeding restrictions.
· ALWAYS check the ingredients in whatever dog food you feed your Doberman and make sure the first ingredient is meat. Never feed Dobermans food where corn is the first ingredient.
· Adult Dobermans should also be fed an adult dog food that contains "joint support" supplements, such as glucosamine, or provided with the supplement to help reduce the risk of hip dysplasia.
TUMMY TIP : Two of my male Dobermans would get upset stomachs before bed or first thing in the morning. This would be especially true if they were nervous about something or if our kids would be arguing about something among themselves- which would upset our Dobies. Dobermans are VERY perceptive!! Our Dobies would get so upset they would even vomit a nasty yellow bile that is near impossible to get out of carpet (use an alcohol hand sanitizer like Purell and a scrub brush to remove the stains). If your Doberman gets a sensitive tummy, you can try to give him or her a piece of bread before bed - torn into small pieces and given as a treat (this is a good way to work on obedience or tricks) to settle his or her tummy and prevent vomiting. I try to avoid wheat and grains because it is a filler and not good for Dobies, but I have found nothing else works. (Feel free to e-mail me if you have a suggestion that worked for you! I would be happy to include it.) I also recommend that you give your Doberman a little one-on-one time to reassure him or her at the end of the day that everything is OK and they have not been forgotten in whatever stresses you or your family might be experiencing. You will be amazed at the difference positive reinforcement will make and how much your Doberman wants to please you.
