THE FOLLOWING IS A LIST OF MY FAVORITE DOBERMAN TOYS:
Please
note, that these toys are mainly for adult Dobies. Most toys will work
for the puppies, but adult Dobermans can be hard to provide toys for
-because they are such powerful chewers. For the pups, you will want to
buy lots of softer toys and more of the educational types of toys. But
as your Dobie gets older, it is hard to find toys that will last the
tough chewing they are known for. These toys have been great for
my Dobies so I thought I would share them. Feel free to send along any
tips for great toys if you have some I have missed and I will add them!
Traci's Official Doberman Toy List:
1.) The Kong
Kongs come in all shapes and sizes and can last for a long time. I have the same toys in different colors, different shapes and from knock-off brands. They are great and you can stuff them with all kinds of things.
The Kong toy is fairly indestructible. But beware of products stating they can be "ingested" safely. This DOES NOT mean they can be digested successfully. If they start to crack or come apart - TOSS THEM. Some of the things I stuff my Kongs with are peanut butter or I will toss a Kong in the freezer with water inside instead of the more expensive Kong fillers. Dobies love the peanut butter and will spend hours chewing and playing with the Kongs.

2.) JW Pet Good Cuz/Bad Cuz Dog Toys
I don't know why my Dobies love this toy, but they do. They don't chew the feet off and they love to chomp on it all day. Several of our puppy owners have told me this is the only toy they would grab if the house is on fire and they could only save one toy. Again, this toy is for older Dobies. The pups don't really enjoy them until they turn about a year old. Make sure to watch your Dobie to make sure they don't CHEW THE FEET off. Also, don't get one that is too small for your Dobie's mouth. My Dobies love to chomp the head of this toy in their mouth to exercise their jaws. You will want this toy to be pretty big. I get the blue and green ones (in this picture they would be the BIG red one, BIG orange one and the medium green one) - the little red one and little orange one in this picture are too small. ***Remember, if it fits all the way in your Dobie's mouth it is too small!! You want it to be bigger than a tennis ball and too big to fit into the back of their throat.
3.) Educational/interactive toys. (Buster Food Cube)
These toys can be stuffed with any kind of flavored dog food (which is so much better than expensive and unhealthy treats) and your Dobie will LOVE it. Just make sure the food is something other than what your Dobie normally eats to keep them entertained (Salmon flavored, Venison, etc.). The cube only releases food if it is turned a certain way, a number of different times. My Dobies have already figured out the pattern to release the food, but they still spend hours playing with this toy. And they haven't chewed it up!! When it is empty, they just stop playing with it.
4.) Nylabone Big Chews Beef Bone
I'm a fan of most nylabones. They have to be really big and you have to take them away if your Dobie chews them down, but they last, are not messy, and the dogs enjoy chewing on them. I will get ones with different textures and tastes and just toss them in their toy box (a round tub full of their toys). Another GREAT treat for your teething Dobie, or for a Dobie of any age, is to toss the nylabone in the freezer for a day and let it get really cold. Dobies love cold nylabones.
5.) Laser Lights
If you want to see how well these work, check out my video page and watch Nickel play with his laser light. lol. Gator plays with the light on his page too. Your Dobie needs to be about 6-7 months before they will get the hang of this toy. Most Dobies one (1) year or older will really enjoy this toy with very little encouragement from you. :~) DO NOT SHINE THE LIGHT IN THEIR EYES!!!
6.) The Starmark Everlasting Treat Ball
This ball seems to live up to it's name of "Everlasting" for some reason. You can either buy the treats that go inside them or not. My Dobies play with this toy even if there isn't a treat inside. And it isn't an expensive toy like some of the other tough toys.
7.) Bubble machines are great!
You can plug them in or turn them on (be sure to place them up on a shelf your Dobie they WILL know what is causing the bubbles and try to get to it) and watch your Dobie spend hours chasing and playing with the bubbles.
8.) Another example of a Nylabone.
The idea here is to keep the shapes, taste and textures different. That way they don't lose interest and it will keep them entertained longer.
9.) Tuffy Dog Toys.
These toys act like a stuffed toy which my Dobies can't have anymore (Dobies become tough chewers after one year of age) and these toys even include a squeaker!! I highly recommend the ones rated "9" and "10."
Submitted Toy Suggestions
Jolly Ball
This suggestion was submitted by Kent. Here is what he said:
"Cleo (Kent's doberman) loves the big Jolly balls. It's an approx 8" ball with a handle. She will chase it for hours and loves to squeeze it until I get tired of hearing it. ha! She will eventually chew a hole in it and I have to replace it but they last for quite a while considering how much she plays with them."
THANK YOU KENT FOR THE SUGGESTION!
